Nice to meet you, too!
Rooted in the heart of East Tennessee, Appalachian StringWorks grew out of a lifelong love of the cello and the rich musical traditions of the mountains. Founded by professional cellist Ian McClure, the studio brings together a community of skilled musicians who share a passion for heartfelt performance and authentic sound. The studio and business as a whole really started in 2015 when Ian began teaching private cello lessons, and booking more weddings and services.
From weddings and live events to private lessons and recording sessions, Appalachian Stringworks delivers music that feels grounded, genuine, and deeply connected. Whether performing as a soloist or assembling a full ensemble, we bring warmth, precision, and a touch of homegrown artistry to every note.
As a performing cellist, Ian regularly subs with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (KSO) and the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra (ORCMA). That firsthand connection to the stage gives Ian a deep understanding of what musicians need from their instruments—how they feel, respond, and sound under real performance conditions.
Ian brings warmth, expertise, and a performer’s insight to every collaboration.
